Home & Office Tinting

Here at Empire Window Tinting we use only American Standard Window Films (ASWF) for all our "flat glass" installs on your home and offices.

While ASWF offers multiple series of film we find that most of our customers want three different finishes, a black, a silver or a clear film. But it's not quite as simple as asking for a black film, we have four different shades, and you may just want a different shade on each room in your house. It is for this reason that we will always request an in home inspection to provide a free measure and quote as it is not as simple as quoting by the size of the windows, there are other factors that play into how we quote our jobs.

Not only can tint help with privacy in your home or office, it can also help protect your furniture, flooring, appliances etc as well as help keep the heat out.

Contact us today to start the ball rolling on an in home measure and quote!

*Please note we only work within a half hour's radius of our store.

What shade should I choose?

During your in-home quote appointment we will show you a range of film options. We typically work with three different film series from ASWF (American Standard Window Films); Moonlight (which has a black external finish), Sky (silver external finish) and Legacy (clear finish). We then also have access to other films including white and black-out, white frost, dual reflective and even bronze external finishes, and unlike many other installers, we do not charge by the film series or shade.

Choosing what film to put on your house takes into account how much natural light you want to keep, how much heat you want to reject, what external finish you would like, privacy, the size of the room vs the size of the window along with frames and accessibility. We will go through all of this with you at the time of the quote. It is then up to you to make an informed decision on what film shades will best suit your needs.

To give you an idea before your in-home quote appointment, here's an idea of what our different film shades look like internally.

Our Moonlight series (black external finish) comes in four shades; 5% (the darkest), 10%, 15% and 25% (the lightest). We then have our Sky (silver external finish) which is our best performing film which also comes in four shades; 10% (the darkest), 20%, 30% and 40% (the lightest). Our Legacy (clear finish) comes in only three shades; 40% (the darkest), 50% and 60% (the lightest) and is used mainly for when you want to maintain your view and natural light, are not concerned about privacy but still want to reject heat and UV.

What to Expect, Aftercare and Maintenance

Maintaining your tinted windows starts at day one. You will notice that your windows may look slightly blurred or hazy, they will need time for the adhesive to dry properly. While we do our best to remove all of the moisture during installation, a small amount will always remain. We usually allow four weeks for the adhesive to fully dry, during this time please ensure you do not clean your windows, remembering that tint is placed on the inside of the window.

When it does come time to start cleaning your windows, after the four weeks have passed, ensure you use a soft microfiber cloth. Avoid anything that will scratch the tint, especially paper towel, old t-shirts, rags, abrasive sponges etc. Always ensure you only use a clean microfiber cloth so that there is no trapped dust or dirt to cause scratching.

Ensure you don’t use any abrasive solutions to clean your newly tinted windows. Just keep it simple and use only clean soapy water, or look for “Tint Safe” window cleaners, ensuring that you stay away from any cleaners that contain ammonia.

Once the recommended four weeks have passed the adhesive should be completely dry and windows should return to normal. While we are happy to fix any major issues (raised within the first two months after install) there is however a certain amount of acceptable contamination that will always occur due to tiny dust particles in the air that is unavoidable. If you do have any questions or issues, please wait the allocated time before informing us, sometimes they will be as simple as water bubbles that have not dried out yet. Please also remember that even in a brand new home there will always be an element of dirt and dust and it is impossible to eliminate every speck, these are usually referred to as micro dots and are not only unavoidable but also acceptable. The best way to avoid this is to ensure we have a clean, dust, dirt and pet hair free environment to work in.
